HOW TO WEAR A DENIM JACKET IN 10 MODERN WAYS
To get a lot out of a trucker, you don't need to be a haulier. Or a cowboy. Like many work wear staples, the jean jacket is no longer a reliable, old-fashioned piece of clothing. It's now a popular choice for many dress codes. What can you wear with a denim jacket? This is where the guide to jean jacket outfits comes into play.
Daniel Rhone, a personal shopper and stylist for top Premier League footballers, says that a denim jacket is a great option for versatility. I layer one between outerwear and an under layer of shirt or tee. This is especially true if the outside temperature is too low.
Although you don't have the right to believe him, he is a cool guy even when wrapped up warm. Here are ten ways you can wear a jean jacket to clarify the point.
CHINOS
Your top half is actually wearing jeans, so you already know that double denim can be dangerous. Going out naked is dangerous. Chinos are the answer. Chinos can be elegant with formalizing features like pleats, creases, and a tab closing, but they can also look casual.
Despite their military history and utilitarian cotton-twill fabric, they are a reliable denim partner. The original khaki is technically a color but not a style. It is a timeless pairing. You can make Don Draper look like Don Draper on the weekends by adding a white T-shirt
WHITE T-SHIRT
Another classic pairing, this one, is enshrined by Americana. It's a crisp but not overly formal look. But it's not as simple as you might think.
Its success largely hinges on finding the perfect white tee, which can be a Goldilocks-ian quest: not too slim, not too baggy; not too translucent, not too bulletproof; not too "gunny", not too modest; not too much like a dress, not too much like a crop-top; not so high on the neck so that it's an undershirt-cum-garotte, not so low that it's a clavicle-exposing deep-U.
The white tee was not basic, but it was wrongly called so.
JOGGERS
A denim jacket is not considered sportswear unless you are a rodeo rider. It provides structure to counter the softness of your Joggers, and, more importantly, it is not another piece of jersey. This will save you from wearing a full tracksuit or a 'Tesco suit'.
Although this is not a strict rule, it's a good idea to avoid any cowboy-inspired details on your denim jacket. Athleisure is not a trend that style historians have recorded as a major in the Old West.
BLACK JEANS
Double denim can be double-good, even if it is against the rules. Martin Sheen in Badlands. You can also make it ugly: Justin Timberlake is a good example. Black and blue are the best choice for sewing jeans.
You can also use other jeans colors to accomplish the same effect: white for one, grey for another, or even white. However, this has its challenges and impracticalities. Like Wesley Snipes, who had a cheeky look at the Rugby World Cup, you should always choose black.
INDIGO JEANS
Unwashed indigo jeans will be a shade harder than black jeans but not as difficult. However, it will have a much lower chance of optically bleeding into a jacket made of lighter or distressed denim than jeans made of lighter or distressed denim.
Mind you, it's not impossible to make double-indistinguishable dark denim. We seem to remember Ryan Gosling looking quite badass on Drive. However, Gosling is Canadian, so may have a home-country advantage.

USE A HOODIE
This combination is an excellent choice for menswear bloggers who want to appear urban. This shouldn't put you off. Because they are both casual, easy-to-wear weekend staples, a hoodie makes a great sparring partner to a denim jacket.
Don't go overboard. The colors should be neutralized, and the fit of your hoodie shouldn't be too tight. Avoid streetwear's latest releases with their brash logos and wear a navy or grey marl underneath a blue denim jacket.
TAILORED TROUSERS
It's similar to the shirt-and-tie, but it can help to minimize the discord between your casual jackets and smart trousers. You could do this by dressing your jacket in smartness and pairing it with unwashed dark jeans.
You could also take your pants down a notch by pairing a nubby, more substantial material with trousers closer to denim. You can also opt for a loose fit with a cropped length or turn-ups.
ROLL NECK
A roll neck can be worn anywhere you can wear a shirt. You can pretty much. However, before you start knitting, think about the finish of your denim jacket, whether it is pristine indigo or battered stonewash. And how that stitched together with your jumper.
The jacket may appear too thin or sheer if the denim is too thick. Layers should be thicker the farther from your body and vice versa.
A TOPCOAT, OVERCOAT, OR TOPCOAT
If you plan to wear your denim jacket under a tailored blazer or coat, it should be as slimming as possible. It should fit comfortably in your hands when worn up. The neck should not be too narrow to match the lapels of your coat.
Even the most elegantly tailored outerwear can have a certain amount of ruggedness. This is by its very nature. You don't have to be afraid to mix and match: the camel, although it is more formal, can make a great combination. It's a bonus if the stitching on your jacket matches the color.
